The minister did, in fact, bring up the performance of VAT, which accounts for roughly 17% of our domestic tax mix as opposed to roughly 50% for our rivals. Thus, we ought to be able to bridge part of the difference if we concentrate on VAT.

Anthony Sarpong, the Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has defended the ambitious GH₵200 billion revenue target set for 2025, stating that it is achievable with the right strategies. Sarpong remains confident that the target can be met through improved compliance and enhanced tax measures, citing underperforming tax areas, especially VAT, as key opportunities for revenue growth. "On the surface, it looks insurmountable, but I believe that with determination, the right strategies, and teamwork, we will be able to meet this challenge," Sarpong said, adding that there are a number of areas where our tax handles are not performing.
