The 66-year-old, who has coached Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur, recently gave some thought to his coaching career, which included his time with the Ghanaian national side.
Hughton talked about his experience at a Show Racism the Red Card event last month in an interview with Voice Online.
"First and foremost, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to play for the Republic of Ireland, where my mother is from, and then to coach Ghana, where my father is from."
"International management is very different – at club level, it's about day to day, it's about working with players, it's about influencing players, whereas international football is about games," Hughton said, acknowledging the distinctions between club and international management.
