Guru Praises Amaarae For Her Outstanding Performance At Coachella 2025.

Teddy Osei, a founding member of the legendary Afro-rock group Osibisa, is a well-known Ghanaian musician and saxophone. His funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Basilica, Roman Hill, Kumasi.

He will be lain in state at his family home in Chirapatre, Kumasi, at 8:00 a.m. before the liturgy. On the same day, the burial will take place at the Chirapatre Royal Cemetery.

On Sunday, April 6, there will be a Thanksgiving ceremony at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Chirapatre. The final funeral ceremonies will then be held at the family home from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the renowned music star died at the age of 88.

Osei, who was born in Kumasi, was exposed to musical instruments at a young age and started playing the saxophone while trying to start a band with his mates from college in Sekondi.

He spent a year working as a building inspector after graduating from college before starting the band "The Comets," which saw some short-term success. On a Ghanaian government grant, he went to London in 1962 to spend three years studying at a private music and drama school. But he was compelled to leave the program due to a shift in the Ghanaian government.

He and other musicians formed Osibisa in 1969. The band, which still performs today, had a fall after gaining international success in the 1970s.
