One of the most recognizable music and art festivals in the world, Coachella, spans two weekends; this year's first event is scheduled for April 11–13. The second weekend, scheduled for April 18–20, 2025, will come next.
In addition to singing her own songs, Amaarae, the first Ghanaian singer to play a solo set at Coachella, honored Ghanaian musicians by covering songs by Eazzy, Joey B, La Même Gang, and Asakaa Boys. She chanted Ghana's name and urged the audience to wave the flag, which was prominently displayed on stage, while she spoke passionately about her love for the country during her performance.
"A lot of the music you just heard is from my home country, Ghana," she told the audience. I have a deep passion for my nation.
Amaarae shaved off her long hair on stage during her performance, signifying a daring new chapter and a memorable event. She also used the occasion to reveal that Black Star, her eagerly awaited album, will be available this summer.
Born Ama Serwah Genfi, Amaarae gained notoriety in 2017 with her Passionfruit Summers EP and has since established herself as a pivotal presence in the Ghanaian and global music communities. She won Record of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards for her 2023 hit, Sad Girls Luv Money starring Moliy.
Amaarae's Coachella performance solidifies her place in world music history and is yet another important turning point in her career.
