Jack Grealish, a midfielder for Manchester City, was allegedly smacked after Sunday's 0-0 draw with rival Manchester United, leading to the charging of a 20-year-old man with assault.
Grealish, 29, was reportedly accosted as he left Old Trafford after the goalless match, according to the Daily Mail.
Alfie Holt of Haven Drive, Droylsden, will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on July 14, according to a statement released by Greater Manchester Police on Monday.
According to the police, "this charge relates to an incident which took place at Old Trafford Football Club yesterday."
When contacted by BBC Sport, both United and City chose not to respond.
Manchester United supporters' disparaging remarks regarding Phil Foden's mother also disrupted the game, which City manager Pep Guardiola claimed demonstrated "a lack of class."
