The hospital was constructed in collaboration with the non-governmental organization Ghana Make a Difference (GMAD) with the goal of offering medical and surgical services to children who were previously trafficked into Ghana's fishing industry and require appropriate medical attention.
The construction of the cutting-edge surgical center within the GMAD premises was revealed by MrBeast in a video posted on April 6. He claimed that the urgent need for medical attention for the children in the organization's shelter prompted his decision.
"Children in the GMAD program were having difficulty accessing medical treatment, and the closest hospitals had very long wait times," he explained.
MrBeast's larger goal to combat child labor and child enslavement in Africa includes the GMAD Surgical Center project. This is the most recent in a series of philanthropic endeavors carried out by his charity organization, Beast Philanthropy.
Since its founding in 2021, GMAD has given thousands of shoes to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, established a food bank, and provided funding for procedures for the blind and visually handicapped.
But even though the initiative received a lot of praise on YouTube, some social media users have reacted negatively to MrBeast's remark. “If you’re going to virtue signal, how about you help Americans?” asked one commentator on X (previously Twitter).
"We do routine food drives in America and give millions of meals away for free to Americans each year," MrBeast said in response to the tweet. "This tweet would be a book if I listed every project we've completed in America. However, my most common response whenever I assist someone in Africa is, "I don't help my own country," haha.
