Ben Nunoo Mensah, the president of the Ghana Olympic Committee, has asked Kofi Adams, the minister of sports and recreation, to make a daring bid to host the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2028.
The departing GOC president stressed that seizing this chance will aid in halting the Borteyman Sports Complex's decline in an interview with Joy Sports. Since its completion in 2024 for the African Games, the complex has not played host to any significant athletic event.
Nunoo Mensah was worried that the facility would deteriorate if it wasn't used frequently.
"The facility in Borteyman will deteriorate rapidly if we don't make use of it and make sure it's used for at least one tournament every three months," Nunoo Mensah said."We can host the Commonwealth Youth Games because we have enough infrastructure. The Sports Minister should have the audacity to declare that we will work to get the next Commonwealth Youth Games.
He also underlined that Ghana had the facilities required to hold the event.
Ghana can host it with ease. We have hotels, a functional transportation system, and other amenities, and in my opinion, we ought to make use of them," he continued.
